2023 Local Development Update

Starting the evening off, hear from Capitalize Albany leadership and Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan on new investment taking shape throughout Albany. Learn what new trends are emerging, what’s on the horizon for development in the Capital City, new strategy-driven programming and more.

PANEL: Emerging Trends & Small Businesses Seizing Opportunities

Thanks to all of our sponsors and with the support of Pioneer, sponsor of the evening’s main event, we’re excited to feature another insightful panel discussion this year.

With Albany Black Chamber of Commerce CEO Deshanna Wiggins as moderator the panel will feature: Caroline Corrigan, Albany based small business focused freelance graphic designer and illustrator; Dominick Purnomo, Restaurant Group owner (including Yono’s, dp An American Brasserie and others); Josh Merlis, president of Albany Running Exchange and ARE Event Productions; and Dr. Zarina Jalal, supervising pharmacist at Lincoln Pharmacy.

Capitalize Albany’s programming and support services are bringing assistance to hundreds of City of Albany small businesses annually and our team has had the opportunity to work with some of the region’s most distinct, innovative and leading small businesses and etrepreneurs.

Hear from a few of them during the evening’s panel discussion, learn more about their businesses, new trends, updates, their stories on growth and opportunities seized.

Join Us At The ABCC

An annual event, Building For Tomorrow will be hosted this year at the Albany Black Chamber of Commerce & Social Club (ABCC), which earlier this year celebrated its completed renovation at 141 Washington Ave. in the building of the former University Club. The space has been transformed into a place of action for entrepreneurs to level up their businesses, for professionals to attend networking events and a social club where people can gather over food, music, art and conversation.

The ABCC is a newly established Chamber providing a hyper focus on the development, promotion and growth of Black and minority-owned businesses in the greater Capital Region. Through advocacy, culturally competent programming, business management training, access to capital and government contracting opportunities, ABCC plays a vital role in establishing equitable business opportunities for the BIPOC communities of Albany and the surrounding areas.
